Around age 7. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check-up by then, because enough adult teeth have arrived to spot developing problems with the bite or jaw. Most children who come in at 7 do not need treatment right away. The visit simply lets us watch growth and step in at the ideal moment if something does need attention.
